About Plastic Maps
Source of Maps:
- The maps available on our website are generated using Sentinel-2 satellite images.
- Sentinel-2 satellites provide high-resolution imagery, allowing for detailed observation and analysis of the Earth’s surface.
Generation of Maps:
- To create these maps, we use custom formula-based algorithms.
- These algorithms are specifically designed to detect and predict plastic concentrations in oceanic and coastal areas.
Algorithm Hosting:
- The algorithms are hosted in the Sentinel EO Hub, a powerful platform for analyzing satellite imagery.
- You can explore more about the Sentinel EO Hub at Sentinel EO Browser.
Type of Maps:
- The maps displayed on our website are predicted plastic maps.
- They provide an estimation of where plastic is likely present based on the analysis of satellite images.
Interpretation of Maps:
- In these maps, the green pixels indicate areas where plastic has been predicted to be present.
- The intensity and distribution of green pixels help in identifying the concentration and spread of plastic pollution.
